According to Kruckk and Reiiff (2001),people who can team up, divide expertise and experience, and exchange their ideas commendably are valuable in real world settings such as business, education, and the like. Endorsing the significance of group projects, this paper explores our group’s rationale, criteria, and format of teammate evaluation. It emphasizes the need for regular and punctual attendance, contributions to group discussions, professional and constructive feedback, and evaluates what is a meaningful questioning while emphasizing high quality work and adherence to details.
Regular and punctual attendance
Regular and punctual attendance by every member is essential for successful group collaboration. Many ideas regarding the project are exchanged at each meeting, and it is important for each group member to give his/her best contribution as a part of the larger group. Other members may need to ask questions or pose ideas to the individual or whole group; therefore, each member must be present in order to have a successful exchange of ideas. Regular attendance is also important, so that neither the individual nor the group will feel excluded or risk falling behind on the project. Punctual attendance serves as a respectful display toward the personal time and efforts of the other group members.
Contributes to Group Discussions
Individual and group contributions are necessary for a successful exchange of ideas, and most importantly, the overall quality and completion of the project. It is essential that each group member has the opportunity to voice his/her opinion, offer ideas, make suggestions for improvement, and provide constructive feedback in a risk-taking environment, yet safe environment (Windham, 2007).
Offers professional and constructive feedback
Providing constructive feedback in a professional manner is essential in the learning process. Constructive professional feedback can be an effective tool in developing competencies needed as a professional (Windham, 2007). Developing a learning environment that fosters innovation and thinking outside the box can elicit new and exciting ideas. This is the type of learning we all should strive to provide for our peer and students.
Asks Meaningful Questions
As a part of the individual’s contribution, it is important for each member of the group to stay focused and not ask repeated questions. This is important as to not impede or slow down the progress of the entire group. If a member contributes by asking meaningful questions, this demonstrates his/her thought process and also prompts thinking, brainstorming, and clarification among other group members (Windham, 2007).
Contributes all work in a timely manner
To create the skill and competencies required in professional organizations or groups, students have to reflect on their own behavior (p 293). Fulfilling your responsibility as a team member is important and often plays a role in the quality of the final project a group completes.
Does high quality, authentic work
Authentic high quality work is defined as work that has value and meaning beyond the classroom and has real world relevance. This work is important because it provides meaning and motivation for learning as well as providing an opportunity to collaboration and reflection (Windham, 2007).
Peer evaluation allows students to see issues in the work, which can help to improve the quality of the final product of all who are involved in the group. It also encourages students to learn to work with others and begin to realize faults within their own character that might otherwise go unnoticed. If students carefully consider the requirements of the assignment when assessing their peers, it will promote a superior quality of work. Peer reflections require students to engage higher level thinking skills, which can promote growth and self-improvement. Peer reflection emphasizes discovery, awareness, motivation and freedom to stimulate the development of evaluation skills rather than focusing on grades; therefore, it is an invaluable tool for any educator to use.

Our group chose to use an analytic rubric with four levels of achievement. The rubric reads from left to right, beginning with exemplary as the highest level of achievement to developing, the lowest level. There are four levels of achievement as opposed to three because evaluators tend to provide more specific feedback regarding progress instead of the general consensus of the middle level. Our group rubric is not a scoring rubric, but a tool designed to show individual contribution toward the overall group project.
